Once again, Ekologistak Martxan (Ecologists in Action) of the Basque Country is organizing the 5th edition of Ekozinemaldia, a festival of ecological cinema. This event will take place in different cities of the Basque Country (Donostia, Bilbo, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Basauri, Iruñea, Estella-Lizarra, Lasarte, Orereta, etc) from 18th to 24th of February 2011.
Ekozinemaldia was initiated by the Commission of Ecological Debt of Ekologistak Martxan, which works and reflects on concepts of ecological debt on its different shapes. We consider that countries of the North are increasingly demanding, consuming and exploiting ressources coming from the South. The environmental and social impacts thereby generated are part of our ecological debt.
You can check our blog to find more about the festival and our organization Ekologistak Martxan's one for our work
The Ekozinemaldia festival is an attempt to deal in depth with this concept, considering concrete case studies and visualizing impacts. Furthermore, the films enable us to listen to affected persons, activists and experts, and we will be able to share impressions and feelings. Thus, a wide range of themes will be taken up, e.g. water supply dams, extraction of hydrocarbons, hydrocarbon sinks, mining, energetic production, climate change etc.) in different countries and regions.
In order to offer a wide range of themes, we depend on the colaboration of organizations and social movements, which could contribute material (films and documentary films) to the festival. For this reason, we kindly ask you to participate. If you know or hold material related to the above-mentioned themes, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or (0034) 94 479 01 19 (Committe of Ecological Debt, on Tuesdays and Thursdays).
